Every day you work hard and need a tool that can support you and your writing style, not just some big tech company’s executive preferences. I want to help you and that’s why I’ve set out to find the Best Writing Keyboard and put together a list of the 10 Best Keyboards for Typing in 2023.

What is the Best Writing Keyboard in 2023?

Razer BlackWidow Elite

razer blackwidow elite best writing keyboard

Best Writing Keyboard Overall

The best of the best for me is the Razer BlackWidow Elite. This is easily one of the best mechanical keyboards in the market and an excellent keyboard for writers.

While it’s originally engineered and marketed as a product for gamers, this keyboard is far from just being a gaming keyboard. Featuring outstanding durability of 80 million keystrokes, replaceable switches with different user experience (Razer yellow, orange and green mechanical switches), and fully configurable macro keys and controls, plus a very comfortable wrist rest, it provides an amazing writing experience.

A mechanical keyboard is not the typical choice for writers but this one is so good that I can’t help myself from telling you “go get it”. You won’t regret it. Its durability is top notch and its keys feel actually much lighter than a typical mechanical keyboard, so you won’t suffer any pain even after long writing sessions.

Not a lot of downsides to be found on this high-quality keyboard but it’s fair to say it’s one of the most expensive keyboards on this list and it’s a bit bulky if you’re thinking about taking it with you on a trip.

  • Swift writing experience.
  • Excellent durability (80 million keystrokes)
  • Best RGB lighting on the market.
  • The palm rest is perfect
  • Best of the Best on Build Quality.

  • High price if you don’t really need the extra functions.
  • It will seem bulky for some

Apple Magic Keyboard

apple magic keyboard best writing keyboard

Best minimalist AND PORTABLE writing keyboard

The Apple Magic Keyboard is a great option for writers and creators who are looking for a minimalist keyboard. It’s our choice for the best portable keyboard and it’s definitely the best laptop keyboard.

It’s a thin and lightweight keyboard that is easy to transport, and it also comes with a built-in rechargeable battery that lasts for up to a month between charges.

It is, without a doubt, the best keyboard for Mac users and a solid option for PC users looking for a minimalistic experience. It’s also one of the best wireless keyboards you can find on the market.

The best part about the Apple Magic Keyboard is that it is very comfortable to use. The keys are responsive and have a nice feel to them, and the keyboard itself is very sleek and minimalist. Plus, the built-in rechargeable battery means that you don’t have to worry about running out of power while you’re working.

Apple’s Magic Keyboard offers an almost keyless experience on the key press because of its flat key design.

  • It’s thin and lightweight, making it easy to transport.
  • The rechargeable battery lasts for up to a month between charges.
  • It has a minimalist design that looks great on any desk.

  • It’s not as durable as some of the other keyboards on the market.
  • There is no numeric keypad, which can be inconvenient for some users.

Corsair K95 RGB Platinum XT

corsair k95 xt platinum best writing keyboard

Best Mechanical Keyboard for Writing and Gaming Alike

The Corsair K95 RGB Platinum XT is a high-end mechanical keyboard that offers everything you could want when looking for the best keyboards for writers. It has Cherry MX switches that provide a great balance between responsiveness and tactility, and it also comes with per-key RGB backlighting and a detachable wrist rest.

Plus, the Corsair K95 RGB Platinum XT is built to last, with a durable aluminum frame that can withstand years of use.

However, all of this comes at a price, as the Corsair K95 RGB Platinum XT is one of the most expensive keyboards on the market. It’s also not as portable as some of the other keyboards on our list, so keep that in mind if you’re looking for a keyboard to take with you on the go.

  • The Cherry MX Brown switches provide a great balance between responsiveness and tactility.
  • It comes with per-key RGB backlighting and a detachable wrist rest.
  • The aluminum frame is durable and can withstand years of use.

  • It’s one of the most expensive keyboards on the market.
  • It’s not as portable as some of the other keyboards on our list.

Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Keyboard

Best keyboard for writers suffering from wrist pain

The Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Keyboard is recommended for writers who suffer from chronic wrist pain and need an extra helping hand to stay active and productive.

It’s also a choice for the lightning-fast typers who want to increase their typing speed to even higher levels thanks to a bigger independence of the left and right hands.

The split ergonomic design helps your hands stay in a natural writing position, while the detachable palm rest helps gives your wrist support and a much needed rest for long hours of writing.

It’s a tenkeyless keyboard but you can easily find it bundled with a numeric pad and mouse (also wireless).

On the bad side, if you’re not used to split keyboards it might take you a little bit to get up to speed with this ergonomic keyboard. Also, it’s not the sturdiest keyboard on the market and if it breaks, you will need to thrash it and buy a new one because there are no replacements available for sale.

To summarize, Microsoft Scupt is the best for writers looking for a comfortable typing experience without sacrificing speed.

  • Excellent ergonomic writing experience.
  • Your wrists and hands will love it.
  • It’s pretty affordable.

  • But there are no replacements available. If anything breaks, you need to buy a new one.
  • It takes some time to get used to if split keyboards are a new thing for you.

Logitech MX Keys Advanced Wireless Illuminated Keyboard

Best membrane keyboard for writers

It’s difficult to overlook a Logitech product when creating a keyboard list. It provides a variety of items that appeal to both office workers and gamers, including the MX Keys.

The Logitech MX is the absolute greatest non-mechanical keyboard for writing. It’s incredibly thin, but it’s also quite durable due to its unibody aluminum case. The keys are grooved, allowing your finger to effortlessly glide from key to key.

The Logitech MX Keys not only has wireless connectivity, but can be connected to three devices at once–making it perfect for those who often have to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously.

The Logitech MX Keys come with an easy-to-use backlight adjustment function that automatically adjusts the keys’ illumination to the ambient room brightness, saving you battery life. You can expect at least 10 days of usage on a full charge. The Logitech MX Keys can last up to five months if you switch off backlighting. As a result, the Logitech MX is an excellent low-maintenance wireless solution.

The Logitech MX Keys is fully compatible with Windows and MacOS, so it’s a fantastic choice regardless of your workplace setup. It’s a little pricey at $119, but it delivers on the promise of such high-end construction quality and typing feel. If you like the idea of the Logitech MX Keys but want something more mechanical, Logitech just released a mechanical model.

  • Excellent feel in the hands.
  • Excellent battery life.
  • Great Backlight System.

  • A bit expensive for a membrane keyboard.

Razer Huntsman V2

razer huntsman v2 best writing keyboard

The Razer Huntsman V2 Optical Gaming Keyboard is one of the best options in the market for writing and is also one of the best mechanical keyboards out there. It’s featured in Number 1 as our Best Keyboard for Programming and Coding and for good reason.

It has a great design that makes it easy to use, and it also comes with a lot of features that make it perfect for this activity.

For example, it has a detachable cable that helps keep your desk clean and organized so you can use it as any other wireless keyboard, as well as an ergonomic wrist rest that helps you stay comfortable during long programming sessions.

Additionally, it also has dedicated media controls that let you easily control your music or videos without having to interrupt your work.

The keyboard feels strong and comfortable, keys are sensitive enough so that typing is easy yet each stroke is accompanied by nice feedback in terms of both sound and light.

The only cons are its price and the fact it’s somewhat bulky, but that entirely depends on your budget and preferences.

  • Comfortable keycaps and plush wrist rest.
  • Configurable Keyboard thanks to Razer’s amazing software suite.
  • Super fast, good for coding and programming

  • It can be expensive (but is worth it)
  • Some don’t like it’s a bit big so it takes quite a chunk of your desk space

NuPhy Air75

Best Hot Swappable Writing Keyboard

The NuPhy Air75 is the most adaptable typing experience for Windows and Mac devices. The Air75 is the world’s thinnest mechanical keyboard, and it comes complete with all of the features you’ll need to enjoy one of the finest typing experiences imaginable.

The Air75’s small profile is its most appealing feature. The Air75 is only 16mm tall when its shortest point is considered. Because of its thin keys and low-profile switches, the Air75 will not pose a wrist strain risk for some individuals who prefer mechanical keyboards due to their taller profiles.

The Air75 can be customized with Gatereon low-profile linear reds, tactile browns, or clicky blue switches. The keyboard is also hot-swappable, so you can always switch them out later. Although most people prefer Linear andTactile as the best options for typing and writing,  you have the choice to use whichever is best for you.

Designed to work both on Windows and Mac, the Air75 gives you flexibility at a very affordable price.

The only downside is on the aesthetics: This keyboard won’t be known for its shiny and pretty visual style. In fact, it looks like a very old keyboard with some color touches.

Also, because I have somewhat big hands, I feel like I miss the keystrokes more often than with other options on the list.

  • Hot Swappable Keys adapt to any style.
  • Very affordable
  • Comfortable for long writing sessions

  • It’s not easy to find extra low profile keys.

Logitech Craft

Best Keyboard for Creators

The Logitech Craft is a slim, minimalistic keyboard full of personality and features to assist creators in being more productive.

It’s simple, packed with features to assist creativity and is very comfortable to use.

And no, don’t buy the marketing line of “complete creative control” that Logitech wants to sell you. However, it’s a very bold and nifty attempt to produce a creative or art focused product that’s very unique in the market.

The Logitech Craft wireless keyboard is thin, sleek and rounded. At first glance, you’ll notice the Craft’s ultimate function: the medium-sized, silver button/dial on its top left corner. This modest-looking addition, dubbed the Crown, is what provides you with those “creative features”.

The Crown lets you spin its wheel, and press and tap its touch-sensitive button to perform actions. On Windows 10 or macOS desktop, using it raises and lowers the volume level. Not impressed? Me neither.

However, within software and apps is where the Crown shines and offers you control. Imagine, for example, in Photoshop you can tap and turn the dial to select a color or adjust settings on your image. Or in a browser, just turn the dial and switch tabs. All that and more can be achieved through it.

Of course, it’s very comfortable for writing all day long and if you can make use of these extra features they can power up and increase your flow state while writing and switching and thinking all day long.

It features dual connectivity – 2.4GHz wireless through Logitech’s Unifying USB receiver and Bluetooth. The battery life is also quite good and can keep you going for days and days.

Logitech G613 Lightspeed

Best Budget Writing keyboard

If you’re looking for one of the best keyboards for writers while also not breaking the bank, the Logitech G613 Lightspeed is your best choice. This is the best keyboard for those on a tight budget.

The proprietary Logitech Romer-G tactile mechanical switches make it a very fast typing keyboard for writers and feature a versatility that far exceeds its price tag: very low latency, dedicated macro keys, dedicated media keys, Bluetooth connectivity, and a neat typing experience overall.

On the other hand, the short pre-travel distance might not be optimal for you if you’re prone to typos. Also, it operates on disposable batteries which is a weird decision nowadays where everything (as in almost anything) has a rechargeable, integrated battery.

Last, but not least, the non-removable wrist rest can make it difficult to carry around, which might not be a problem if you just plan to keep it at your office or home.

Overall, it’s a great keyboard taking into account it’s at least $30 cheaper than the rest of the options on this list.

  • Very affordable.
  • The great number of features.
  • Nice typing experience.

  • I’m typo-friendly and this keyboard loves me.
  • Uses disposable batteries.
  • Bulky to carry around.
  • Build quality is just ok.

Razer Pro Type Ultra

Best-looking writing keyboard for writers

If you’re looking for an amazing typing keyboard that also looks great in any environment and works great as a gaming keyboard, the Razer Pro Type Ultra is a must for you.

This is an excellent mechanical keyboard that’s somewhat understated compared to others in this list. I’m assuming white is not the color of choice for most people when it comes to keyboards because otherwise it’s amazing.

The Pro Type Ultra (yes, it’s over the top, flashy name) is silent compared to other mechanical keyboards thanks to the noise-dampening foam that acts as cushioning for the keys. Plus, it comes with a wrist rest that makes the Pro Type Ultra very comfortable for long writing sessions.

The Pro Type Ultra can be connected in any of three ways: wired, 2.4GHz wireless, and Bluetooth. Bluetooth is especially convenient because it can be connected to multiple devices (up to four) and it’s really easy to switch between them.

The Pro Type Ultra’s battery life is even better than that of the original Pro Type, with Bluetooth and Wireless mode lasting more than a week each on a single charge.

The Pro Type Ultra is a great option if you’re looking for something that’s both comfortable to use and different from other options on the market.

Kinesis Freestyle Edge RGB Split

kinesis freestyle best writing keyboard

Best Split Keyboard for Typing and Writing

The Kinesis Freestyle Edge RGB Split Keyboard is a great choice for writers who want a keyboard that is both comfortable and functional.

It features a split design that allows you to position the keyboard in the most comfortable way for you, which is perfect for people who spend a lot of time typing such as yourself.

Additionally, it has RGB backlighting that lets you customize the color of your keyboard to match your mood or style.

It also includes a number of handy features such as media controls, a detachable braided cable, and a gaming mode that disables the Windows key.

It has a number of dedicated keys that can be used to control the mouse cursor, making it easy to navigate around the screen. It also has a number of customizable buttons that can be used to perform common tasks, such as copy and paste.

However, it’s not all positive as there are two main downsides to this keyboard:

The first one is that a split keyboard is not everyone’s cup of tea. I personally prefer one-piece keyboards vs splits, especially for writing. It takes a bit of time getting used to such interfaces.

The other downside of this keyboard is that it’s a bit pricey, but it’s definitely worth the investment if a split design is your thing

  • Great set of customizable buttons
  • RGB Backlighting is great.

  • It is relatively expensive.
  • The keycaps are made of ABS plastic, which is not as durable as PBT plastic
  • It’s not as comfortable to use for long periods of time

DAS Keyboard 4 Professional

The best keyboard for the office

The DAS Keyboard 4 Professional is as classy as it gets. A solid aluminum top panel gives it a top-of-the-line look and more rigidity.

It also comes with some nice design touches such as an oversized volume knot and two USB 3.0 SuperSpeed that act as hub.

It features a few function buttons such as an instant sleep button and a footbar that also works as a ruler. Weird? Maybe, but useful all the same.

The more you deep dive into its inner parts, the better idea you have on the build quality of this keyboard. With gold-plated Cherry MX mechanical switches under the keycaps, you are sure to get an excellent typing experience.

On the cons side, it’s expensive, like many other DAS products, but the truth is the DAS Keyboard 4 is a premium product so you pay for what you get.

  • Outstanding build quality.
  • Superb looks and feel.
  • Amazing typing experience.

  • Expensive, as in you’re buying a Maseratti for typing.

How to Choose the Best Keyboard for you

When it comes to choosing the best keyboard for you, there are a few things you need to take into account.

One of the most important factors is the type of keyboard you prefer. There are a variety of different types of keyboards available, including mechanical, membrane, and scissor-switch keyboards.

Mechanical keyboards are considered the best option for typing, as they offer a more responsive and tactile experience. They also have a longer lifespan than other types of keyboards.

If you’re looking for a keyboard that is both comfortable and functional, a split design may be the best option for you. Split keyboards allow you to position the keyboard in the most comfortable way for you, which is perfect for people who spend a lot of time typing.

Additionally, you’ll want to consider the backlighting of the keyboard. If you plan on using your keyboard in low-light conditions, backlit keys can be a great option.

Finally, you’ll need to decide what extra features you need. Some keyboards come with media controls, while others have a detachable cable or gaming mode.

The most important thing is to find a keyboard that suits your needs and preferences. With so many different options available, there’s sure to be a keyboard out there that’s perfect for you.
